Giving Back Through Service: Supporting Our Community with Wills for Heroes

At The Law Offices of Bradley H. Smith, we believe being a workers’ compensation attorney is about more than just practicing law. It’s about using our skills to serve others. Recently, our founding attorney Bradley H. Smith (or Brad as most people know him), had the opportunity to do just that by volunteering with Wills for Heroes, a program of the North Carolina Bar Foundation that provides simple wills, health care powers of attorney, and durable powers of attorney to eligible first responders and their spouses.

Over the course of the day, Brad met with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department employees and their spouses to prepare these essential legal documents. Working alongside two Elon University School of Law students at the school’s Charlotte campus, they guided clients through important questions and ensured that each document was properly completed and ready for use.

“I became an attorney not just to have a profession, but to also be in a position to provide meaningful value to my community,” said Brad. “By engaging in an event like this, I get to do just that.”

He also said, “The impact of these documents cannot be overstated. They help ease the stress and anxiety loved ones face during moments of crisis or loss, offering peace of mind and clarity when it’s needed most.”

For our firm, volunteering isn’t just a nice gesture—it’s a reflection of our values. Being there to help when others are in a time of need is at the heart of what we do. We strive to demonstrate that our care for people extends beyond our clients and reaches into our broader community.

“As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. Those of us fortunate enough to help others should do more than just talk about making a difference. We should act on it,” adds Brad.

We’re proud to support programs like Wills for Heroes and look forward to finding new ways to give back, serve, and make a lasting impact in the lives of our neighbors.
